TRACK & FIELD
The Kristi Hovenga Memorial Youth Track and Field Meet is a FREE event for local 1st–6th graders, taking place on Wednesday, May 28th from 5:30–7:30pm at the Waldorf University Track. Join us as we celebrate youth fitness, community spirit, and the lasting legacy of a beloved friend.
This special event honors Kristi Hovenga, a former member of the YMCA family whose passion for youth sports and unwavering support of track and field left a lasting mark on our community. As the wife of Forest City High School’s Track and Field coach and the proud mom of kids who ran track, Kristi poured her heart into the sport and the young athletes she cheered on. This meet is our way of carrying forward her enthusiasm and love for track and field.
Kids will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of age-appropriate running, jumping, and throwing events in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. No experience is necessary—just bring your energy and excitement! Families are encouraged to come cheer on our young athletes as we honor Kristi’s memory together.
1st-2nd Grade
Practice will be held at the Waldorf University track on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:15pm. Our optional local track meet will be held on 5/27 from 5:30-7:30pm. Free registration will open for the track meet in mid May.
IMPORTANT PARENT/GUARDIAN NOTICE:
Weather can be questionable this time of year so practices may get cancelled, rescheduled, or moved to the Y. These changes will be communicated in two ways:
- Notices will be posted on the Forest City YMCA Facebook page by 2pm the day of.
- Text message sent through our Youth Programs Notifications class on the Y’s REMIND app.
Our Youth Programs Notifications class is ONLY used to share time sensitive information on our programs such as schedule changes based on weather.
To sign up, text @ynotify to 81010. If you have trouble texting to 81010 you can text to 605-857-8051. Either way, you will be prompted to reply YES to finalize set up.
You can unsubscribe any time by replying with @LEAVE.
